The article analyzes the basic problems of the construction and development of agricultural cooperation, proposed in

domestic science in the 90s of the XX and in the first two decades of the XXI century. The principles and forms of its organization, mechanisms of influence on various spheres of public life of Ukrainian society, as well as ways of interaction and relationship with the state and its institutions are highlighted. The social consequences of the implementation of the tasks of agricultural cooperation are analyzed. The vision of advantages and weaknesses of various forms of cooperation (production, service, consumation) is presented in domestic science. Agricultural cooperation and cooperatives are considered as phenomena that are more important for social and state development as a whole and are not reduced only to the solution of economic issues. An understanding of the relationship between the concepts of “cooperative” and “enterprise” is presented, ignoring and replacing of which leads to deformations in the understanding of the essence of cooperation and the mechanisms of its effective functioning. The basic foundations of the debate in domestic science regarding the nature and structure of associations in the field of agricultural cooperation are reflected. The defining features of the functioning of the modern domestic agricultural cooperation are considered in an inextricable connection with the processes in the agricultural cooperation in the USA, Canada, and the countries of the European Union, taking into account the historical traditions of its development in Ukraine.
